Acrolein

Acrolein (Chem.), C6H4O2, bildet den scharfen reizenden Dampf, der sich bei der Einwirkung der Wärme auf die Fette u. die fetten Öle bildet; es entsteht aus dem Glycerin einfach durch Wasserentziehung mittelst wasserfreier Phosphorsäure u. ähnlichen Agentien; es ist, in reiner Gestalt, ein wasserhelles, das Licht stark brechendes Öl, dessen Dampf die Augen u. Athmungsorgane heftig angreift; besitzt einen brennenden Geschmack; ist leichter als Wasser u. siedet bei 52°; es löst sich in etwa 40 Theilen Wasser; in Äther ist es in weit größerer Menge löslich. Frisch bereitet ist die Lösung neutral. Es verbrennt mit heller leuchtender Flamme. Mit der Zeit verwandelt es sich in einen gefärbten Körper, das Disacryl. Salpetersäure verwandelt das A. in eine eigenthümliche Säure, die Acrylsäure (s.d.) Der A. verhält sich in vieler Beziehung den Aldehyden ähnlich.
