Brooks (spr. Bruhks), Mary, geb. Gowan, pseudonym Maria del Occidente, geb. 1795 in Medford bei Boston; reich u. den höheren socialen Kreisen angehörend, verlor sie plötzlich Gemahl u. Vermögen, erbte aber eine kleine Pflanzung auf Cuba, wo sie fortan lebte u. 1845 starb. Sie schr.: Zophiel (romantisches Epos), London 1833 u.ö.; Judith, Esther and other Poems, Bost. 1820; Ydomen, 1842.
