Ceanōthus

Ceanōthus (C. L.), Pflanzengattung aus der Familie der Rhamneae-Franguleae, 5. Kl. 1. Ordn. L. Arten: C. americanus, nordamerikanischer, 3–4 Fuß hoher Strauch, bei uns im Freien dauernd, mit schön belaubten Zweigen u. weißen Blüthenbüscheln; die dicke rothe Wurzel u. die rothen Stängel (Radix et Stipites ceanothi) von herbem, scharfem Geschmack dienen in Amerika als Abführungsmittel, erstere auch zum Färben, die Blätter als Thee. C. asiaticus, C. africanus, C. macrocarpus, C. capsularis u.a. in Glasod. Treibhaus.
