Contubernalis (röm. Ant.), 1) Bewohner eines Contubernium, d.h. gemeinschaftlichen Zeltes, über welches der Decanus die Aufsicht hatte; 2) Zeitgenoß eines Heerführers; vornehme Jünglinge, die sich unter demselben zum Kriegsdienste bildeten; 3) Stubengenoß; 4) Sklaven, die im Contubernium zusammen in Ehe lebten, gleichsam als thierartiges Zusammenleben, nicht als Connubium betrachtet. Daher von diesen allen: Contubernalität.
