Croker, 1) John Wilson, geb. 1781 in Dublin; prakticirte daselbst als Advocat; kam 1807 ins Parlament u. wurde unter Perceval 1809 Secretär der Admiralität; 1830 trat er aus dem Staatsdienst, 1835 wurde er nicht wieder in das [546] Parlament gewählt u. st. 10. Aug. 1857. Im Parlament war er für die Emancipation der Katholiken u. gegen die Reformbill; einer der geistreichsten, aber auch wegen seiner schonungslosen Satyre gefürchtetsten Kritiker Englands, entschiedenster Vertreter der hochkirchlichen u. hochtorystischen Richtung; Mitarbeiter am Quarterly Review; er schr.: Familiar epistles (an Jones), London 1803; An intercepted letter from China, ebd. 1805 (worin er die Sitten Dublins satyrisch beschreibt); A sketch of the state of Ireland, ebd. 1807; Talavera (Gedicht), 1809. 2) Thomas Crafton, geb. 1797 in Irland, war bei der britischen Marineverwaltung angestellt u. st. 8. Aug. 1854 in der Nähe von London. Er schr.: Researches in the south of Ireland, 1824; Fairy legends and traditions of the south of Ireland, Lond. 1827; Legends of the lakes, ebd. 1828, 2 Bde.; Daniel O'Rourke, ebd. 1828; Barney Mahoney, ebd. 1832; My village, ebd. 1832; Popular songs of Ireland, ebd. 1839; A kerry pastoral, ebd. 1844.
