Dorneck-Thierstein, 1) Amt im Schweizercanton Solothurn, größtentheils gebirgige fruchtbare Landschaft mit 19 Pfarreien u. 13,200 katholischen Einw., welche Viehzucht, Acker- u. etwas Weinbau treiben; 2) Pfarrdorf daselbst, verbunden mit Dornach u. Dornach-Brugg, unweit des gleichnamigen Schlosses; 840 Ew. Das in Ruinen liegende Schloß D. gewährt eine herrliche Aussicht bis in den Sundgau. Bei D. 22. Juli 1499 unglückliche Schlacht für Maximilian I. gegen die Schweizer; im Französischen Revolutionskriege wurde D. 1. März 1797 von den Franzosen genommen. 1813 stürzte bei D. die Brücke mit dem Gefängnißthurme ein.
