Edam, 1) Stadt am Zuydersee im Bezirk Hoorn des niederländischen Gouvernement Nordholland, früher befestigt, Käsehandel (Edamer Käse); Thranbrennerei, Salzsiederei; 4000 Ew.; 2) Insel in der Bai von Batavia, an der Westnordküste der Insel Java, viel Waldung; hier Waarenmagazine der Holländisch-ostindischen Compagnie; früher Verbannungsort.
