Griffin, Gerald, geb. 1803 zu Limerick in Irland, widmete sich der Literatur u. wendete sich 1823 nach London, wo jedoch seine beiden Trauerspiele Aguise u. Gysippus nicht aufgeführt wurden. Nach zweijähriger Noth gelang es ihm, Mitarbeiter an mehreren Zeitschriften zu werden; 1827 kehrte er nach Irland zurück u. lebte zu Pallas Kenry; 1838 trat er in die Gesellschaft der Christlichen Schulbrüder u. st. 1840. Er schr.: Der Allerheiligen Abend (eine Sammlung irischer Erzählungen), 1826; Munstergeschichten, 1827, 3 Bde. (darin der Falschmünzer, das Kartenschlagen), denen bis 1838 noch zwei Reihen nachfolgten; Die Schulgenossen, 1828; The invasion, 1832; Der christliche Naturkenner, u. mehrere Novellen u. Romane; vgl. K. v. Killinger, Erin, Stuttg. 1847, 1. u. 2. Bd.
