Manifest

Manifest (v. lat.), 1) öffentliche Erklärung der höchsten Staatsgewalt, worin diese ihren Unterthanen, Bürgern u. überhaupt dem Publikum die rechtliche Ansicht u. ihre Beweggründe darlegt, aus denen sie einen bes. wichtigen Schritt (z.B. eine Kriegserklärung) gethan habe od. noch zu thun im Begriff steht; daher Manifestiren, eine solche öffentliche Erklärung abgeben. 2) (Seew.), der Ausweis über alle Güter, die ein Schiff geladen hat, welches der Capitän gleich nach seiner Ankunft dem Zollamte übergibt, um danach zu clariren.
