Ledyard (spr. Ledjahrd), Johann, geb. 1751 zu Groton in Connecticut; ging als Knabe nach New-York, wo er Matros wurde, begleitete Cook auf seiner dritten Reise u. war Zeuge von dessen Tode. 1782 durchwanderte er Nordamerika u. reiste nach Kamschatka, ging dann nach Petersburg, wo er dem russischen Gouvernement verdächtig geworden, nach Sibirien geführt wurde; er kam mit Mühe los u. nach Königsberg zurück. Joseph Banks ließ ihn nach England zurückreisen, wo er 1788 an einer Reise nach Afrika Theil nahm u. 1789 in Kairo starb.
