Pallegoix

Pallegoix, I. Baptiste, geb. 28. Oct. 1805 in Combertault bei Beaune, wurde im Seminar für fremde Missionen erzogen u. 1830 als Missionar nach Siam geschickt. Er zeichnete sich dort so aus, daß er schon 1838 das apostolische Vicariat von Siam erhielt u. zum Bischof von Mallos ernannt wurde. Durch das Vertrauen, welches ihm der König Somdet Phra Maha Mongkut schenkte, ward der französische Einfluß in Siam dem englischen überlegen. Er st. 1862. P. war Begründer der siamesischen Studien in Europa u. schr. lateinisch: Grammatik der Thaisprache, Bangkok 1850; Siamesisch-latein.- franz.- englisches Wörterbuch, Par. 1854; [878] Description de royaume de Thai ou Siam, Par. 1854, 2 Bde.
