Potomac River

Potomac River, Fluß in Nordamerika, entspringt in zwei Quellenflüssen (dem North u. South Branches) auf den Alleghanies in Maryland u. Virginia, welche sich auf der Grenze der beiden Staaten vereinigen. Er nimmt den Shenandoah River auf, bildet fortwährend die Grenze zwischen Maryland u. Virginia u. fällt nach einem Laufe von 80 Meilen in die Chesapeake Bai des Atlantischen Oceans. Er ist bis Washington für die größten Schiffe fahrbar; der Chesapeake-Ohio Kanal begleitet ihn von Cumberland bis Georgetown.
