Psephos (gr.), Steinchen, bes. ein vom Wasser abgeriebenes, geglättetes; gebraucht als Rechenpfennig im Bretspiel, zu Wahrsagereien (Psephomantie), bes. aber zum Abstimmen in der Volksversammlung. Daher Psephisma, durch Stimmenmehrheit in der Volksversammlung gefaßter Beschluß.
