Speyk, Jan Carel Josephus van S., geb. 1802 in Amsterdam; diente seit 1820 als Freiwilliger u. Cadet auf Schiffen im Mittelmeere u. in Ostindien u. avancirte, nach den Niederlanden zurückgekehrt, zum Lieutenant. Bei der Beschießung Antwerpens[533] 1831 durch die Holländer hatte er mit seiner Kanonierschaluppe vor der Tête de Flandre seine Stellung, nahe am linken Stromufer, u. als am 5. Febr. die Schaluppe, vom Sturm gegen den Kai der Stadt getrieben, vom Volke, den belgischen Milizen u. Linientruppen in Beschlag genommen wurde, sprengte S. dieselbe in die Luft. Der Leichnam S-s wurde in Amsterdam beerdigt u. ihm in der Katharinenkirche dort ein Denkmal gesetzt.
