Tirunal

Tirunal (ind. Rel.), Fest zu Ehren des Wischnu od. Schiwa, dauert zehn Tage u. wird mit täglichen Processionen mit dem Bilde des Gottes Opfer gefeiert. Am letzten Tage ist die Procession am feierlichsten. Das Bild des Gottes wird auf einen mit Blumen u. Fahnen geschmückten Altar gesetzt u. auf einen großen, mit Darstellungen aus der Geschichte des Schiwa verzierten Wagen gebracht, welcher von mehren tausend Menschen unter Jauchzen u. Musik gezogen wird. Fromme Fanatiker legten sich sonst oft auf den Weg, welchen den Wagen nahm, u. ließen sich zermalmen, weil sie so unmittelbar zur Seligkeit eingingen.
