Toaldo

Toaldo, Joseph, geb. 1719 in Pianezza bei Vicenca; war erst Landgeistlicher, wurde 1762 Professor der Geographie, Physik u. Naturgeschichte in Padua u. st. hier 1798. Er baute in Padua ein Observatorium, beschäftigte sich viel mit Meteorologie u. arbeitete ein System aus, worin er eine Zeit von 18 Jahren, nach dessen Verstreichung sich die Naturerscheinungen wiederholen sollten, als Cyclus annahm. Er nannte diese Epochen Saros, Andere aber Toaldinische Cyclen. Auch den Gestirnen maß er vielen Einfluß u. dem Mondscheine Wärme bei. Er schr.: Trigonometria, Pad. 1769, 3.
