Zakynthos, 1) Insel an den Küsten von Elis, südlich von Kephallenia, fruchtbar u. waldig; auf ihr die Spitze Elatos (j. Skopo); man fand hier auch in einen See weiches, stark riechendes Bergharz. Z. gehörte zu dem Reich des Odysseus, j. Zante; 2) Stadt der Insel, früher Hyrie, mit der Akropole Psophis. Die Geschichte der Insel s.u. Zante.
