Allŏxan (Erythrische Säure, Chem.), C8H2N2O8, von Brugnatelli entdeckt, bildet sich bei der Einwirkung von Salpetersäure od. eines Gemenges von chlorsaurem Kali mit Salzsäure auch Harnsäure. Es bildet oft zolllange Krystalle, löslich in Wasser, von ekelhaftem Geruch, röthet die Pflanzenfarben, zersetzt aber kohlensauren Kalk u. Baryt nicht, färbt die Haut purpurroth u. gibt mit Eisenoxydulsalzen eine indigblaue Färbung.
