Altorf, 1) (Uri-A.), Hauptstadt im Schweizercanton Uri an der Mündung der Reuß in den Vierwaldstädtersee u. am Fuß des Grunberges, Sitz der Regierung, Transitohandel; 2150 Ew. Hier schoß angeblich Wilh. Tell unter einer Linde, an deren Stelle seit 1567 ein Brunnen (Tellbrunnen) steht, seinem Sohn auf Geßlers Geheiß den Apfel vom Kopfe. Am 5. April 1799 große Feuersbrunst; 2) Mehrere Orte in Baiern, Ungarn, Württemberg, Schweiz, Frankreich; 3) so v.w. Altdorf.
