Cattanēo, 1) (Catanäus), Giovanni Maria, geb. in der letzten Hälfte des 15. Jahrh. in Novara, war ein Schüler des Demetrius Chakondylas, wurde Secretär des Cardinals Bandinello Saulo in Rom, trat in den geistlichen Stand u. st. 1529 in Rom; er schr. einen Commentar über die Briefe u. den Panegyricus des Plinius, Ven. 1500, Mail. 1506, u. ein lateinisches Lobgedicht auf Genua: er übersetzte den Isokrates u. die Progymnasmata des Aphthonios, auch Stücke aus Lucianus; 2) Gaetano, in seiner Jugend Maler u. Zeichner an der Münze zu Mailand, wurde Gründer u. später Director der k. k. Münzsammlung der Brera in Mailand. C. ist auch als Stempelschneider bekannt; er starb 1841. Er schr.: Monumento ant. di bronzo del Mus. ungherese, Mail. 1819, Fol.
