Gosford

Gosford, Archibald Acheson, Graf von G., Sohn Arthurs, folgte 1807 seinem Vater als Viscount u. Baron G. von Market in Irland; als irländischer Peer sprach er im Oberhause stets mit Mäßigung für die Interessen Irlands; 1835 zum Reichsbaron u. englischen Peer erhoben, wurde er nach Canada gesendet, um dort die ausgebrochenen Irrungen zu untersuchen. Aber seine Instruction war nicht von der Art, daß er die gereizten Gemüther versöhnen konnte, vielmehr brach der Aufstand im Nov. 1837 aus, u. er verließ in Folge seiner schon früher erbetenen Entlassung Canada u. kehrte nach Irland zurück.
