Gurwood

Gurwood (spr. Gorwud), John, geb. 1788, trat 1808 in die englische Armee, wurde 1809 Lieutenant, 1812 Capitän, 1817 Major, 1827 Obristlieutenant u. 1841 Obrist, nachdem er 1830 mit Halbsold pensionirt worden war; nachher Deputy Lieutenant des Tower von London u. st. durch Selbstmord 1845 in Brighton, wohin er sich zur Herstellung seiner Gesundheit begeben hatte. Eine Reihe von Jahren war er Wellingtons Privatsecretär. Er schr.: General ordres of the Duke of Wellington in Portugal, Spain and France (1809–18); Despatches of the Duke of Wellington during his various campaigns in India, Denmark, Portugal etc. from 1796 to 1818, 12 Bde.
