Journal (fr., spr. Schurnal), 1) Tagebuch; 2) im kaufmännischen Buchhalten das Buch, in welches aus den vorläufigen täglichen Notizen (Kladde, Memorial, Strazze) die Geschäfte auf die einzelnen Conti gebracht (journalisirt) u. daraus erst ins Hauptbuch übergetragen werden, vgl. Buchhaltung; 3) so v.w. Zeitung u. Zeitschrift; 4) (Logbuch), das Schiffstagebuch, in welches für die einzelnen Tage u. Tageszeiten alle Begebnisse, die sich auf die Navigation beziehen, eingetragen werden; es bildet eines der wichtigsten Schiffsdocumente; 5) ein Flächenmaß in Bordeaux = 1100 sächsische Quadratklafter.
