Penny, im Plural Pence, englische Scheidemünze, ehemals nur von seinem Silber, größtentheils sehr sauber geprägt, von der Größe eines Silberdreiers, jetzt auch von Kupfer, 1 Loth schwer, mit dem Bilde des regierenden Herrschers u. der Britannia; 12 Pence- = 1 Schilling, 20 Schilling (240 Pence) = 1 Pfd. Sterl. (6 Thlr. 20 Sgr.), also 1 P.- = 10 Pfennig preußisch. Es gibt Stücke zu 1 P., 2, 3, 4 u. 6 Pence; vgl. Großbritannien.
