Pitris

Pitris (ind. Myth.), 1) die von den 10 Altvätern abstammenden großen Erzeuger u. Vorväter, Gottheiten der Vorzeit, welche ruhig im Monde wohnen. Zu ihnen gehörten die Agnischwatta, die Barhischads, desgleichen die Somapa, Havischmal, Atya-pas u. Sukalin; 2) Opfer, welches den P. täglich dargebracht wird.
