Sothis (Seti), bei den alten Ägyptiern Name des Sirius, des Vorstehers der Dekane, u. einer Göttin der ersten Ordnung im Göttersysteme, erscheint als eine Begleiterin des Kneph, mit dessen Aufgang die Ägyptier ihr Jahr anfingen; aber auch astronomische Bezeichnung der Isis, weshalb der Sirius auch Isisstern genannt wurde. Nach ihm war die Sothische Periode genannt, so v.w. Canicularperiode, s.u. Jahrrechnung b).
