Square (engl., spr. Squähr), 1) viereckig, vierkantig; 2) das Viereck, Quadrat, das Feld auf dem Schachbret; 3) ein Häuserquadrat; bes. 4) ein viereckiger (bisweilen aber auch runder) von Häusern umgebener, mit einem eisernen Gitter eingefriedigter, mit Rasen, Bosquets, Blumenbeeten, Statuen, Sandgängen etc. versehener öffentlicher Platz in den größeren Städten Englands, bes. in London, s.d. S. 498.
