Suite

Suite (fr., spr. Swit), 1) Folge; 2) Gefolge; bes. 3) Gefolge von Militärpersonen, welche den Landesherrn, Feldherrn od. einen commandirenden General bei Dienstvorfällen begleiten u. von ihm nach Belieben verwendet werden. Daher gehören zur S. die Generaladjutanten, die Generalstabsoffiziere, die Galopins, die Ordonnanzoffiziere etc.; 4) in der Studentensprache so v.w. Duell; 5) jedes lustige Unternehmen; 6) eine Reihe an einen Bindfaden gebundene, numerirte Packete mit gekräuselten Haaren; 7) sonst Tonstück, welches aus mehrern auf einander folgenden Tanzmelodien, namentlich der Allemande, Courante, Sarabande u. Gique (s.d.) bestand u. für ein od. mehre Instrumente abgefaßt war. Später schaltete man auch zwischen den Tänzen andere Sätze, z.B. Andante, Allegro ein, u. nannte die S. Partie.
