Calabūra

Calabūra (Muntingia Calabura L.), ein Bäumchen od. Strauch aus der Familie der Tiliaceen, mit schiefherzförmig lanzettlichen, unten zottigen Blättern, weißen, ein Zoll breiten Blüthen u. gelblichrosenrothen, genabelten Beeren, die größer als eine Kirsche u. wohlschmeckend sind. In seinem Vaterlande, auf den Antillen u. den benachbarten Theilen Südamerikas, wird die Rinde zu Augenwasser, die Blüthen aber wie Lindenblüthen als Thee u. die schleimigherben Blätter gegen Diarrhöen gebraucht. Aus der Rinde macht man auch Stricke. Vgl. Muntingia.
