Contour

Contour (fr., spr. Kongtuhr, ital. Contorno), Umriß, Linien, durch welche bei Zeichnungen die äußeren Umrisse der Figuren u. Gegenstände bestimmt werden; davon Contonriren, die Umrisse der Figuren zeichnen. Von der Richtigkeit der C. hängt im Allgemeinen der Werth jeder Zeichnung u. ein großer Theil des Werthes eines jeden Gemäldes ab. Beim Malen werden die Umrisse nicht durch scharfe Linien markirt, sondern treten durch die Gegensätze von Licht u. Schatten von selbst hervor. Die Contourzeichnung wird vorzüglich angewandt, um plastische Bildwerke in kleinerem Maßstabe wiederzugeben, da bei diesen nur die Richtigkeit der Formen u. die Harmonie der Linien den technischen Werth des Kunstwerthes bedingt, Farben- u. Lichteffecte aber nicht in Frage kommen.
