Fibroīn, Hauptbestandtheil der Seide, der sogenannten Herbstfäden u. des Badeschwammes; es ist in reinem Zustande weiß, amorph, glänzend, nicht elastisch, ohne Geruch u. Geschmack. unlösllich in Wasser, Alkohol, Äther u. Essigsäure. löslich in concentrirten Mineralsäuren u. in Kalilauge, wobei es sich zersetzt. Nach Mulder ist seine Zusammensetzung C39H31N6O17; im Badeschwamm ist das F. mit Jod, Schwefel u. Phosphor verbunden. Man gewinnt es durch längeres Auskochen der Seide od. Herbstfäden mit Wasser u. starker Essigsäure.
