Fundamentāl

Fundamentāl (v. lat.), was einer Sache zum Grunde liegt; daher Fundamentalgesetze, so v.w. Grundgesetze; Fundamentalbedingung, Grund-, Hauptbedingung; Fundamentalartikel des Glaubens, Artitel, die von solchen, welche durch Christum selig werden wollen, nicht geleugnet werden dürfen; im Gegensatz zu den nicht fundamentalen, die unbeschadet der ewigen Seligkeit geleugnet werden können. Schwierig war es immer, zu bestimmen, welche Artikel fundamental u. welche nicht fundamental sind. Zuweilen nennt man auch die Artikel fundamental, wodurch der wesentliche Charakter des Christenthums anderen Religionen gegenüber bedingt ist.
