Giorgākis

Giorgākis (Georgakis, Jordakis), geb. 1776 in einem Dorfe am Olymp, griechischer Capitän in dem Befreiungskriege, entwickelte in der Moldau u. Walachei außerordentliche Kraft u. Thätigkeit, als 1821 der Kampf begann, an dessen Spitze Ypsilantis stand. Bereits Anfangs 1621 hatte er ein bedeutendes Corps unter seinen Befehlen u. setzte, auch nachdem Ypsilantis in der Schlacht bei Dragachan am 7. (10.) Juni 1621 aus der Walachei sich zurückgezogen hatte, mit Pharmakis den Kampf noch einige Monate fort, indem er die Türken durch stete Gefechte beunruhigte u. ermüdete, bis er sich endlich im September mit wenigen Hunderten seiner Getreuen vor dem überlegenen Feinde in das Kloster Seko in der Nähe des Pruth zurückzog u. sich daselbst nach langem Widerstande in die Luft sprengte.
