Knolles

Knolles (spr. Nolles, Knowles), Robert, geb. 1317 zu Heiford in Chester, von niederem Herkommen, war Feldherr des Königs Eduard III. von England, führte 1349 den Krieg in Berry u. Auvergne, siegte 1364 bei Auray über Karl von Blois, streifte 1370 bis vor Paris u. unterstützte den Schwarzen Prinzen, wurde aber von Bertrand du Guesclin geschlagen. Sein Ruhm war am höchsten, als er Wat-Tyler schlug. Er starb auf seinem Schloß in Kent als Seneschall von Guienne 1407.
