Kosmos

Kosmos (gr.), 1) die Welt (s.d.). Der größte Theil der griechischen Philosophen dachte den Kosmos als beseelt, als höchste Gottheit. Bei den vielfachen Vergleichungen zwischen der beseelten Welt u. dem Menschen nannte man jene Makrokosmos (Welt im Großen), diesen Mikroskomos (Welt im Kleinen); 2) der Titel eines Werkes Alexanders von Humboldt (s.d.), in welchem er seine Weltanschauung niederlegt.
