Porter, 1) Richard Kerr P., geb. 1780, Maler, machte 1819 eine Reise nach Georgien, Armenien u. Persien u. st. 1842 in St. Petersburg. Er schr.: Travels in Georgia, Persica, Armenia etc., deutsch, Weim. 1823. 2) Anna Maria, englische Schriftstellerin, starb den 6. Juni 1832 in Bristol; sie schr.: Barony, Don Sebastian, Fast of St. Magdalen, Honnor O'Hara, Hungarian brothers, Knight of St. John, Lake of Killarney, Octavia, Reclusse of Norway, Roche Blanche, Village of Mariendorpt u. Walsh Colville. 3) Jane, Schwester der Vorigen, geb. 1776 in Durham, Gründerin der historischen Romane in England, starb am 24. Mai 1850 in Bristol; sie schr.: Christian of Luneburg, Field of Forty Footsteps, The Pastors Fireside, Scottish Chiefs, Thaddeus of Warsaw (für diesen Roman wurde sie von Warschau aus zum Stiftsfräulein des polnischen St. Joachimordens ernannt); mit ihrer Schwester schrieb sie Tales round a Winter's Hearth. 4) G. R., geb. um 1800, organisirte 1832 im Auftrag des Lord Auckland das statistische Departement u. dirigirte dasselbe; er st. im Sept. 1852 u. schr.: Progress of the Nation, u. unter seiner Leitung erhielten die Statistical Tables, die jährlichen Nachweise des Board of Trade über Handel, Industrie u. Finanzen Großbritanniens, hohes Interesse.
