Sterkel, Johann Franz Xaver, geb. 1750 in Würzburg; wurde 1778 Organist u. Hofcaplan in Mainz, reiste 1779 nach Italien u. componirte in Neapel die Oper Farnace, wurde nachher Canonicus in Mainz u. nach Righinis Tode Kapellmeister daselbst. 1807 folgte er dem Fürsten Primas nach Regensburg, kehrte 1814 nach Mainz zurück u. starb dort 1817. Er componirte Lieder, Canzonen, Messen, Sonaten, Concerts fürs Pianoforte.
