S. hieß im Mittelalter Strumpitza (Strummitza) u. war ein sehr festes Schloß, welches mit drei Städten im Anfang des 14. Jahrh. den Staat S. bildete, dessen Herr, Chreles, vom byzantinischen Kaiser belehnt wurde, aber später zum König von Serbien, Stephan Duschan, abfiel, weshalb S. nach Chreles Tode an Serbien kam.
