Syropulos

Syropulos: Syropulos (richtiger Sguropulos), Silvester, war im 15. Jahrh. hoher Kirchenbeamter in Constantinopel u. 1438 mit dem Patriarchen Joasaph bei dem Ferrara-Florentinischen Concil zur Union der Morgen- u. Abendländischen Kirche. Ein Feind des Romanismus war er gegen die Union u. verweigerte selbst dem endlich zu Stande gekommenen Vergleich die Unterschrift, zu welcher ihn schließlich erst die Drohung des Kaisers Johannes VII. brachte. Deshalb von seinen orthodoxen Freunden getadelt, gab er seine Kirchenämter auf u. schrieb griechisch Die wahre Geschichte der unwahren Union zwischen Griechen u. Lateinern, herausgeg. mit lateinischer Übersetzung, von Creyghton, Haag 1660.
