Tirey

Tirey (spr. Tiri), Insel aus der Gruppe der südlichen Hebriden, zur schottischen Grafschaft Argyle gehörig; von der Insel Coll durch den Sund Gunna getrennt; zerrissene Küsten mit guten Buchten, im Innern sehr eben, 11/2 QM., 4200 Ew.; fruchtbarer Boden, aber wenig Holz, 24 kleine Seen. In der Nähe hat man unter dem Meere einen ganzen Wald entdeckt; Hauptort: Travay.
