Ure (spr. Juhr), Andrew, geb. 18. Mai 1778 in Glasgow, besuchte die Universität seiner Vaterstadt u. vollendete seine Studien in Edinburg; 1800 kehrte er nach Glasgow zurück, wo er als praktischer Arzt u. seit 1803 als Professor der Naturgeschichte u. Chemie an der Andersonian Institution lebte; seit 1808, wo er zur Gründung der Sternwarte in Glasgow beitrug, beschäftigte er sich mit Astronomie; 1830 wendete er sich nach London u. starb daselbst am 2. Jan. 1857.
