Ustion (v. lat.), 1) Verbrennung; 2) Anwendung von Brenn- od. Ätzmitteln, s. Kauterien; 3) das Brennen, d.h. der Proceß, bei welchem unter Anwendung hoher Hitzgrade manche Körper chemisch verändert werden; so das Brennen des Kalksteins, welcher dabei unter Verlust von Kohlensäure in gebrannten Kalk (Calcaria usta) übergeht, des Alauns, welcher dabei Wasser verliert u. zu gebranntem Alaun (Alumen ustum) wird.
