Declination

Declination (v. lat.), 1) Abbeugung, Abneigung, Abweichung; 2) (Gramm.), die Art, wie ein Nomen zur Bezeichnung verschiedener Beziehungen (Casus) abgebeugt (declinirt) wird, wenn es überhaupt beugbar (Declinabile) u. nicht unbeugbar (Indeclinabile) ist, s. u. Substantivum; 3) (Astr.), der nördliche od. südliche Abstand eines Gestirns vom Äquator, in Bogen eines, auf letzterem senkrecht stehenden größten Kreises (Declinationskreis). Sie ist gleich dem Unterschiede zwischen der Mittagshöhe des Gestirns u. der Äquatorhöhe, od. gleich der Ergänzung od. Poldistanz zu 90°. Zur Messung dieser Abweichung dient der Meridiankreis od. Äquatorial; 4) Abweichung der Magnetnadel von der Richtung des astronomischen Meridians od. der Nordsüdlinie; sie beträgt in Deutschland 18–20° nach Westen, s. u. Magnetismus; daher Declinationscompaß (Declinatorium, Declinationsinstrument, Abweichungscompaß), s. Compaß u. Magnetismus; Declinationskarten, so v.w. Abweichungskarten, s. u. Magnetismus; 5) im Verlauf einer Krankheit der Zeitraum, wo dieselbe wieder abnimmt.
