Haggādah

Haggādah (hebr., Plur. Haggadoth), 1) Verkündigung, Aussage, Sage, Art der rabbinischen Lehren u. Erzählungen, welche sich nicht auf das Gesetzliche (Halacha) beziehen, keiner Überlieferung (s. Kabbala) bedürfen u. nach Maimonides auch für den Orthodoxen nicht verbindlich sind. Ihr Hauptinhalt ist Dogmatik, Geschichte, Geheimlehre, doch mit vorwaltendem ethischem Element, meist aus regelmäßigen öffentlichen Vorträgen über die Bibel gesammelt; 2) (H. schel Peßach), kurze Schilderung des Auszuges aus Ägypten, meist aus Bibelstellen zusammengesetzt, nebst einigen dahingehörigen Stellen aus der Halacha, Gebeten u. Denksprüchen; wird an den zwei ersten Abenden des Passahfestes in jeder Familie vorgetragen. Die H. ist oft gedruckt, übersetzt u. commentirt worden.
