Stadt darin im türkischen Ejalet Aydin, am Fuße des Manissadagh, links am Gedis-Tschai, hat ein altes verfallenes Castell, Handel, Baumwollenweberei, in der Nähe große Safranpflanzungen, ist Sitz eines griechischen Bischof- u. zählt 40,000 Ew. M. ist das alte Magnesia ad Sipylum, u. war einst Residenz osmanischer Prinzen.
