Inspiration

Inspiration (v. lat. Inspiratio), 1) das Einathmen, s.u. Athmen; daher Inspirationsmuskeln, die zum Einathmen dienenden Muskeln; 2) (gr. Theopneustie), die besondere Einwirkung Gottes, mittelst welcher er durch den Heiligen Geist die Apostel so unterstützte u. leitete, daß sie die, durch außerordentliche Offenbarung empfangenen Religionslehren[937] richtig auffaßten u. unverfälscht mittheilten u. niederschrieben. In der alten Kirche hielt die Alexandrinische Schule mit ihrer allegorisirenden Exegese streng an der I. im Gegensatz zur Antiochenischen Schule, welche in ihrer grammatischen Exegese den Inspirationsbegriff milderte. Die Symbolischen Bücher der Lutherischen u. Reformirten Kirche faßten die I. nicht streng u. scharf auf, sondern denken dabei oft nur an einen göttlichen Beistand beim Schreiben u. an eine höhere Anregung. In der Katholischen Kirche wird auch die I. nicht so streng hingestellt, da dieselbe nach katholischen Ansichten beute noch in der Kirche fortdauert. Nach der Ansicht der älteren Theologen Calvin, Hollaz, Musäus, Buddeus u. Andern unterscheidet sich eine reale u. verbale, eine active u. passive, eine vorhergehende, begleitende u. nachfolgende, eine allgemeine u. besondere I. Von rationalistischen u. philosophischen Dogmatikern wurde der strenge Inspirationsbegriff verlassen u. dieselbe entweder als Sinnbild der Begeisterung, od. als eine allgemeine I. ohne Unfehlbarkeit bezeichnet, während die Lutheraner denselben festhielten; vgl. Offenbarung.
