Place (fr., spr. Plahs), 1) Ort, Stelle, Platz; so P. d'arme (spr. Plahs darm, Waffenplatz), geräumiger Ort, zur Versammlung u. Aufstellung der Soldaten; auch im bedeckten Wege der Raum vor dem ausspringenden u. eingehenden Winkel, letzter meist mit nochmals ausgehenden Winkeln des Glacis versehen u. geräumiger gemacht. P. basse, die niedrigen Wälle vor den Bastionsfacen, welche zur Bestreichung des Ravelingrabens bestimmt sind u. die Stelle der Fausse braye vertreten; 2) öffentlicher Platz in Städten; 3) so v.w. Festung 2); daher P. du moment (spr. Plahs dü momang), so v.w. Provisorische Festung.
