Plumbagin

Plumbagin, in der Wurzel von Plumbago europaea enthaltene Substanz, krystallisirt in orangegelben, seinen, büschelförmig vereinigten Nadeln od. Prismen, schmeckt anfangs süßlich, dann brennend scharf, wenig in kaltem, mehr in kochendem Wasser, leicht in Alkohol u. Äther löslich; Alkalien färben die wässerige Lösung schön kirschroth, Säuren stellen die Farben wieder her, Bleiessig färbt sie ebenfalls roth u. gibt einen carmoisinrothen Niederschlag.
