Ricciŏli

Ricciŏli (spr. Ritscholi), Giambattista, geb. 1598 in Ferrara, Jesuit u. Astronom, Gegner des Copernicanischen Systems, bemühte sich ein neues aufzustellen, nach welchem Sonne, Mond, Jupiter u. Saturn um die Erde, Venus, Mercur u. Mars aber um die Sonne kreisen sollten. Verdient machte er sich um die Beobachtung des Mondes, an welchem er 600 Flecken nachwies, beobachtete auch den Ring des Saturn u. fertigte ein Verzeichniß aller von 772 v. Chr. bis 1647 n. Chr. beobachteten Sonnenfinsternisse; er st. 1671 u. schr.: Almagestum novum, Bologna 1651; Astronomia reformata, ebd. 1665; Geographia et hydrographia reformata, ebd. 1661 u.m.a.
