Maynooth

Maynooth (spr. Mehnußh), Marktflecken in der Grafschaft Kildare der irischen Provinz Leinster, an der Eisenbahn von Dublin nach Galway u. am Königskanal; Fabriken u. ein 1795 gegründetes katholisches Collegium mit 11 Professoren u. 2 Lectoren. Die Zahl der Studenten beträgt gegen 500, von denen fast die Hälfte Freistellen haben, die Jahreseinkünfte betrugen bis 1845 nahe an 9000 Pfund Sterling, zur Verstärkung der Dotation wurde 1845 eine Bill (Maynooth-Bill) eingebracht, welche nach harten Kämpfen im Parlament durchging, s.u. Großbritannien V. B).
